Firms with direct-to-consumer models may have been able to continue sales at a stronger rate. U.S. seaborne imports of electronics and home appliances indicate retailers broadly are rebuilding their inventories. There was a 2.8% year over year rise in imports of consumer electronics and a 13.7% increase in home appliances in the first half of June compared to a year earlier. The rise in home appliances was led by a 62.8% surge in shipments linked to Electrolux in the first half of June which followed a 49.9% rise in May. Similarly shipments associated with Miele climbed by 15.3%. By contrast Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics’ shipments declined by 8.0% and 17.0% respectively.
