Elections should cut Brexit risks, news by Hebei Longsheng
Elections should cut Brexit risks, U.S. trade deal importance rises The British elections on Dec. 12 should start to simplify the outlook for Brexit. A majority Conservative government – the most likely outcome according to polling data – will lead to passage of the existing Withdrawal Bill and an exit from the EU with or without a trade deal by Jan. 31, 2021. Any combination of Labour or Liberal Democrats will likely lead to a referendum on a revised Withdrawal Bill or a termination of Brexit, again followed by trade deal negotiations with the EU. A trade deal with the U.S. is also becoming increasingly important. British export to outside the EU rose by 9.1% year over year in October, largely due to a 17.4% surge in exports to the U.S. In turn that included a 20.9% jump in shipments of cars to reach a record high. The autos expansion has largely been the result of increased U.S. seaborne imports associated with BMW, including its Mini brand, as well as other luxury manufacturers with the exception of Jaguar Land Rover. Among other products, exports of organic chemicals to the U.S. jumped 32.9% while pharmaceuticals fell 27.7% in October compared to a year earlier.
