Thai tariffs hikes, news by Hebei Longsheng
The U.S. government has removed access to reduced tariffs under the Generalized System of Preferences for 573 products imported from Thailand. While part of a wider GSP review the move is not a surprise given the U.S. trade deficit reached $19.8 billion in the 12 months to Aug. 31. Panjiva’s analysis shows the new exclusions cover $2.04 billion of imports in the 12 months to Aug. 31, or 6.2% of total U.S. imports from Thailand. The largest products include: electricity control boards worth $152 million; spectacles worth $117 million and fuel pumps valued at $100.9 million. The largest U.S. seaborne importers of products covered by the exclusions include imports of control boards by Samsung Electronics and Mitsubishi, and fuel pumps by Denso and Honda. |
