Trump get Muscular, news by Hebei Longsheng
The past two weeks have seen a series of punches and counter-punches as the Trump administration takes a more muscular approach to trade policy. The proposed hike in tariffs on Chinese imports have drawn threats from shoemakers and retailers that consumer prices will have to increase. The administration may also restrict exports to Hikvision among others. China meanwhile has applied retaliatory duties that could hurt the chemicals sector in particular and may cut rare earth exports. The postponement of autos tariffs by the administration was combined with a declaration that the EU and Japan are national security threats, potentially overshadowing forthcoming trade negotiations. On a more positive note the removal of metals duties on imports from Mexico and Canada should help the agriculture sector as well as the scrap steel sector.
