Three carrier offering news by Hebei Longsheng Metals and Minerals Co., ltd
ONE's three carrier offering crosses alliance barriers, raises antitrust risks Ocean Network Express (ONE) will start offering a container-line service from three Asian markets to three Latin American markets including Brazil. ONE’s interest in the shipping to Brazil isn't a surprise its imports from the three Asian markets grew 15.4% in the 12 months to Sept. 30 on a year earlier to reach 644.3k TEUs. What is unusual is that the service is being offered jointly with Hapag-Lloyd and MSC. While Hapag-Lloyd is part of THE Alliance with ONE, MSC is in the competing 2M alliance which includes Maersk. Hapag-Lloyd and 2M accounted for 43.2% of traffic on the Asia-Brazil service lines so the new arrangement may raise antitrust concerns. The move follows a joint offering between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk for Mediterranean-to-U.S. lines - 2M held a 45.1% share of Europe-U.S. traffic and THE Alliance had 25.9% in the 12 months to Oct. 31. Any signs that the container alliances are collaborating may draw the ire of antitrust authorities and comes as the EU is already reviewing their antitrust exemption. |
